Milk

If you have any time to go to the movies this holiday season, i would like to recommend seeing Milk, the new movie starring Sean Penn. It's an independent movie, and will probably not be at the main movie theater, but trust me, it's well worth seeking out.

Simply put, Milk is amazing. The last time I saw a movie that moved me this much was Malcom X, which is ironic considering that after watching this movie the first thought that popped into my head was that Sean Penn is to Milk (and the gay rights movement) as Denzel Washington is to Malcolm X's (and the civil rights movement). From the moment this movie started i immediately forgot i was even watching Sean Penn. Instead i was completely pulled into the character Harvey Milk. Penn is that good. I would be shocked if he didn't win a ton of awards for this movie.

I would also like to add that this movie has really put a lot of things together in terms of the gay rights movement and really challenged a lot of things i never understood or thought i understood. It will also put many things into perspective in terms of american history as well. I think that is what getting older should be; a constant evolution and changing of our beliefs and challenging ourselves.

I don't want to talk about the movie too much until you all go see it. But if anybody has seen it already, post a reply and let me know what you thought. I'd love to discuss it with those that have.

Take Care & Happy Holidays.
